Project Managment
2024 Summer Reading Gantt Chart
The Project Management in Libraries online course, taught by Debra Lucas through ALA eLearning, gave me practical tools and strategies to manage projects more effectively as a branch manager. As the branch manager, I am constantly juggling multiple initiatives—programming, collection development, marketing, and community outreach—so having a structured approach to project management helps me keep everything on track. The course reinforced the importance of setting clear goals, creating realistic timelines, and effectively delegating tasks to staff, so projects run smoothly and meet their objectives.
One of the biggest benefits was learning how to break down large projects into manageable steps, assign responsibilities, and track progress using project management tools, especially Gantt charts. This has been especially useful when planning events, launching new services, or implementing changes within the library. The course also emphasized communication and stakeholder engagement, which showed me how to collaborate more effectively with staff, administration, and community partners. Overall, it gave me confidence in leading projects from start to finish, ensuring that our library continues to grow and serve the community in the best way possible.
