LIS 519 Programs & Services for Youth
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course taught me how library programs connect with books, learning, and community engagement. I had hands-on experience creating arts and crafts, discovering best practices for youth programming, and learning how to evaluate online and written resources for quality and relevance. I learned about budgeting, program planning, and marketing strategies using tools such as Zoom, YouTube, Microsoft Suite, and others. Throughout the course, I worked independently and collaborated online to develop fun, engaging, and educational programs for kids and teens while learning how to plan, manage, and promote library events effectively.
ASSIGNMENT
I created a program guide tailored for my target audience of teens, featuring one program per month over 12 months. I outlined the planning process for each program, including the intended audience, key topics, and overarching themes. I also developed a detailed execution plan covering necessary materials, staff requirements, and setup logistics. Additionally, I created a budget for each program, listing required supplies, their costs, purchase locations, and the total expenses. To ensure successful outreach, I designed a marketing plan that included promotional materials such as newspaper articles, radio spotlights, social media posts, and partnerships with local schools to advertise the programs effectively.
